Etiquette and Titles

Etiquette 

Etiquette means a salute or greeting use to express respect among Masters, Instructors and Students before and after a Tai Chi and Qigong class.

 

Proper greeting is vitally important as this is the key to understanding the etiquette of the martial arts. You have to learn great responsibility, respect and humility prior to learning Tai Chi and Qigong knowledge as well as skills.

 

Etiquette is a core value of our Academy and to Tai Chi and Qigong origins. Your salute is a key way to show your value and gratitude as well as respect on what is being taught. As a general guideline, the following etiquette needs to be observed according to their Seniority at all times.

 

Upon entering and leaving the Training Venue

  1. First, always saluted to the Master
  2.  After the Master, then Chief Instructor 
  3. Then Senior Instructors
  4. Followed by other Instructors who present 
  5. Finally, the Students

 

Etiquette on how to Salute

Master 

You stand strongly with your head bowed looking at the ground and hand at your forehead level.

   

Chief / Senior Instructor  

You stand strongly with your head up and looking at the face of the Chief / Senior Instructor and your hands at your nose height.
 

Assistant Instructor / Junior Instructor / Instructor 

You stand strongly with your head up and looking at the face of the Assistant Instructor / Junior Instructor / Instructor and your hands at your shoulder level.

 

Student / Senior Student 

You acknowledge their salute with a nod of appreciation or a salute of friendship.   

 

Titles  

The Gold Dragon Tai Chi Academy is a big family with Masters, Instructors and Students. Like a traditional Chinese Martial Arts Academy, we looks after one another and address one other with titles corresponding to their seniority, irrespective of age; they are determined by the order in which members have joined the school.
